Mid-Winter Marvels: Revitalize Rooms with Sparkle & Color

While many people wait until spring to tackle home redesign projects, I prefer to start early and banish the mid-winter blahs with a little interior revitalization. January is when we spruce up many of the settings in our Seattle-based retail furnishings store with new product, and also when I like to refresh and rearrange rooms in my own home.

This doesn’t mean that you have to purchase new furniture. In fact, I sometimes like to challenge myself to not spend any money and use what I currently have. This could mean re-arranging upholstered pieces, shifting items around in your bookcases, our repositioning rugs and throw pillows.

However, if you are interested in making some New Year’s purchases (I do own a retail showroom after all and would be remiss not to at least suggest buying something), bring in fresh color, glittering accessories and unusual accents to create visual drama and add a glamorous touch.

This can be achieved through incorporating metallic finishes, glass and crystal, mirrors, and pops of jewel-tone color. I recently featured an assortment of items on my monthly NBC-Seattle New Day Northwest TV segment that can really bring sparkling style to any space, large or small, without spending a fortune. I’ve rounded up images a few of my favorite pieces from the segment below, but be sure to watch the full video clip, here.

Designer Jacques Garcia’s Cristobal chest is a stunning statement piece from Baker Furniture. It features a stylized geometric design inspired by facets of cut crystal and is varnished in a silver leaf finish.

Lighting is key to adding dramatic interior effects, particularly during the winter months. Mr. Brown’s Antoinette lamp is a textural, organic form that pops with metallic sparkle and is capped by a contemporary drum shade.
